SpeedyLink CCP-1 Installation Instructions
Congratulations on your purchase of the newest and easiest method for increasing the speed of the computer controlled Club Car Precedent IQ golf cart. The SpeedyLink system is an integrated module that connects easily between the drive motor and the computer/controller. The module contains proprietary digital circuitry that manipulates the data signals to basically put the motor in an “overdrive” output mode. The SpeedyLink design is specific for the Precedent IQ which utilizes a SepEx speed sensor motor with a Curtis controller.
The SpeedyLink module can typically yield a 50% increase in speed over the stock factory settings, which are normally set to around 12 mph at the Club Car factory. The increase in speed you will obtain is just right for neighborhoods and communities that embrace electric vehicles for daily mobility to shopping and recreation areas as a normal lifestyle. Proper safety precautions and equipment should be utilized to prevent personal injury when operating any vehicle at any speed. Enjoy your SpeedyLink safely.
1. Lift the seat bottom to expose the battery compartment. You will see the RUN/TOW switch between the batteries. If your cart does not have a RUN/TOW switch, it is not a Precedent IQ and the SpeedyLink will Not work with your cart. Put the RUN/TOW switch to the TOW position and lower the seat bottom back into its normal position.
2. Locate the plastic access panel in the very rear of the cart in the cargo/golf bag area. Using a #2 phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws located on the upper half of the panel. Retain the screws for re-installation later. Gently pull the panel toward you and up at the same time to remove it. There are two plastic inserts where the screws were, be sure to keep them intact for re-installation of the panel.
3. Locate the electric motor that is now exposed. You will note a number of large gauge wires going to the motor. Be sure not to disturb them. Toward the back and right of the motor, locate three smaller wires going to a grey connector. The wires will be Black, Red and Green. This connector is the same type as the SpeedyLink, and is where the connections will be performed.
Note that the Black, Red and Green wires from the motor to the connector are relatively short. Extreme care should be taken. Do NOT pull on the wires themselves. Serious damage could result.
4. De-mate (separate) the three pin connector halves by pressing down firmly on the locking tab, while pulling the connector halves apart. A slight rocking motion between the two halves may be required to separate them. (Don’t pull on the wires, just the connector bodies).
5. Connect the SpeedyLink
a. The Speedylink connector with the Yellow wire in it will mate to the motor connector you just disconnected from the harness. Make sure to align the connectors correctly (green will align with orange) and firmly push them together until they “click” together.
b. The Speedylink connector with the Blue wire in it will mate to the harness that goes to the computer/controller. Make sure to align the connectors correctly (green will align with blue) and firmly push them together until they “click” together.
c. Secure the Speedylink and wires utilizing “zip ties” to keep them from hanging down or chaffing.
6. Replace the rear access panel and secure with screws removed in step 2.
7. Return the RUN/TOW switch to the RUN position – You are DONE!!
Be sure to use Caution the first time you run the cart. Get the feel of the cart, as it will perform differently. Of special note is that the cart may “coast out” more when you back off the throttle than you are used to. This is normal. The most dramatic results from your new SpeedyLink will be experienced with good batteries on a full charge. Enjoy and be Safe!
